Ohio Hills Health Centers is proud to celebrate 50 years of providing affordable and accessible quality health care to the residents in our region. Over the years OHHC has expanded to include dental, behavioral health, nutrition, radiology, laboratory, and pharmaceutical services. OHHC now provides care for over 9,000 area residents from newborns to seniors.
In 1972 Richard B. Phillips, M.D., a local surgeon, saw the need for an organization that could deliver quality healthcare services to the underserved population in rural Southeastern Ohio. Dr. Phillips shared his vision with 3 local leaders and collectively laid the groundwork for what would be known today as Ohio Hills Health Centers.
With the assistance of William E. Chaney, John D. Kirk and Frank E. Damsel, Ohio Hills Health Centers was formed and chartered as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) health care corporation in January 1973. In 1976 Dr. Phillips was instrumental in securing 1 of only 50 Rural Health Initiative Grants awarded nationwide and hired Executive Director Theodore J. Koler. In May of that same year and with less than five employees, OHHC began providing healthcare services at its first health center in Woodsfield, Ohio.
“Since 1976, OHHC has expanded our services and increased the number of our sites, yet we have always stayed true to our mission of providing affordable and accessible health care. OHHC has a dedicated board, highly experienced providers and tremendous staff who are committed to meeting the needs of our communities. Providing high quality community healthcare for 50 years is an accomplishment worthy of celebrating.”
