Services | School-Based Health Center

Ohio Hills Health Centers operates School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) at Bellaire High School and Belmont Career Center, bringing quality healthcare directly into the school setting. By placing care where students already are, we help them stay healthy, focused, and in class — while making it significantly easier for families to access the services they need without the barriers of transportation or time away from work.

Why School-Based Health Care Matters

Studies show that only 54% of Ohio’s children have an established medical provider. When students have unaddressed health conditions, their ability to concentrate in the classroom suffers and absenteeism increases. Healthy students learn better, attend more consistently, and are better positioned for long-term success. School-Based Health Centers exist to close that gap — ensuring that every student has access to the care they need, regardless of their family’s insurance status or financial situation.

Who Can Be Seen

The Belmont Career Center is open to enrolled students, their household members, and staff. OHHC-Bellaire is open to students, staff and community members. While these centers serve as a primary care home for many students who do not have an established provider, they also work alongside existing physicians to coordinate care and fill gaps. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.

Enrollment & Consent

Parents and/or guardians are required to complete enrollment and consent forms annually before a student can be seen at a School-Based Health Center. These forms ensure that our providers have the information they need to deliver safe, appropriate care. Medical records are kept strictly confidential within the health center system, and sharing records with outside parties always requires a signed Release Form.

Insurance & Payment

Our School-Based Health Centers accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid. For patients without insurance, our financial counselors are available to discuss discount programs and sliding fee scale options so that cost is never a reason to skip care.
